  abstract      = {When 20 years ago some computer specialists tried to raise an issue of the year 2000 date change - they were treated as kind of harmless maniacs. Nowadays, with less than three years left, we already know we can only limit the consequences of the problem, and even that is going to cost us the earth. In Poland there are no huge computer systems which were build over tens of years, but that does not mean the turn of the century problem will not arise there. Judging by widespread ignorance and disregard enjoyed by this very problem here - the beginning of the year 2000 promises to be rather an eventful period of time...}
