  abstract      = {Conceptual modeling is now recognized as an essential step in the development of software for information systems. Currently, many different conceptual techniques exist. The application of information system development methods makes no sense without a proper automated support tool. In this paper sequential graph rewriting system are presented as a formalism for the specification of diagram modeling languages. The main idea is to represent diagrams by (formal) graphs whose nodes are enriched with attributes. Then any manipulation of a diagram can be expressed in terms of manipulation of its underlying attributes representation graph. The current database state may be represented by an attributed graph. Then, the semantics of database actions is given by programmed graph replacements.}
