  abstract      = {In this paper we discuss how we have used an adaptations of decision trees and Toulmin’s theory of argumentation to develop a framework for the construction of legal knowledge-based systems.  Our research has been developed into a 1) A tool for building web-based knowledge based systems (WebShell); and 2) A tool for managing knowledge in the form of Toulmin Arguments (ArgumentDeveloper).  We also discuss five systems we have constructed using ArgumentDeveloper.}
