  abstract      = {Microsoft’s dominance in the PC operating system market has resulted in increasing control of the PC-based software market, especially in business and general non-technical areas. Linux has shown itself to be a viable minor competitor in some sectors of this market. This paper presents the idea that instruction in and use of the Linux operating system in computer information systems (CIS) curricula is both entirely appropriate in light of the emerging importance of Linux in the business world, and a positive move to support technology transfer.}
