Globalization of business and need in extensive use legal information result in development of legal information systems.

The 6th International Conference on Business Information Systems (BIS 2003) is being organized to provide a forum for the exchange and dissemination of research in the development, implementation, application and improvement of computer systems for business purposes.

The purpose of this special session is to provide a special forum for and gather all who are interested in legal information technology and legal information systems issues.

 

TOPICS OF INTEREST

Therefore we plan to focus our session on:

bulletLegal publishing via the Web and its commercial and non-commercial aspects
bulletLegal data and legal databases
bulletIndexing, searching and finding multidimensional legal contents across the Web
bulletLegal ontologies
bulletStandards for legal information interchange
bulletStandards for law on the Web
bulletXML standards
bulletImpact of legal information systems on the law
bulletFacilitating law reform and law-making via the Web
bulletCross-continental and multinational legal information initiatives
bulletInteractive and 'intelligent' legal services on the web
bulletLegal issues in providing law via the Web

 

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES

bulletResearch papers: up to 5000 words
bulletWork-in-progress papers: up to 2500 words

 

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Papers to be considered for regular conference presentation and proceedings should be submitted via the regular conference submission process. Detailed instructions, especially formatting, will be published on conference Web page. Questions on content should be directed to the special session organizing committee:

A. RESEARCH PAPERS
Papers should not exceed 5000 words. They should describe original research (practical or theoretical). Theoretical papers should provide an overview of area of research closely related to information retrieval and filtering in BIS. Practical papers can describe an implemented tool or service that contributes to the area of information retrieval and filtering.
 

B. WORK IN PROGRESS
Papers should not exceed 2500 words. They may present some aspects related to information retrieval and filtering and describe work that it is still in progress but its results may be interesting for a broader audience.

 

IMPORTANT DATES
Jan. 15, 2003 submission deadline for long and work in progress papers to be published in refereed proceedings
Feb. 28, 2003 notification of acceptance/rejection
April 15, 2003 submission of final papers
June, 4-6, 2003 the conference
