===================================================================== = TABIS-2003 = = = = Time Aspects of Business Information Systems = ===================================================================== SPECIAL SESSION IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE 6TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BUSINESS INFORMATION SYSTEMS BIS 2003 HTTP://WWW.BIS2003.INFO COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO, USA JUNE 4-6, 2003 Call for Papers --------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- Submission deadline: Jan 15,2003 ------------------ --------------------------------------------------------------------- Time dimension has always been considered an integral part of every information system. Many research and implementation projects focusing on time aspects of information systems have been developed in the recent decades. Recently, researchers have become more and more interested in analyzing temporal references in Web documents (semi-structured information) stored in either Internet or intranet text database systems. The time axis offers a clearly-defined, common and objective dimension for describing data stored in various formats. Almost any object that may be represented in a business information system may be described in terms of the time dimension. This brings new chances of business data analysis and opportunities to develop new standards and solutions for contemporary information systems. The goal of this special session is to give researchers and developers, who deal with temporal aspects of unstructured information (documents) and structured information (data), an opportunity to discuss the impact that time management has had and can have on business information systems, to exchange ideas, and to present state-of-art solutions in the area. ------------------ TOPICS OF INTEREST ------------------ TABIS 2003 invites submissions related to time aspects of business information systems, which manage either unstructured or structured data. Papers submitted must clearly demonstrate relevance to time aspects of business information systems. Suggested topics include but are not limited to: - Temporal relationships between documents and data in knowledge management systems - Temporal query languages - Timeliness in Web documents - Temporal databases - Temporal analysis of retrieved unstructured information - Temporal reasoning - Time granularities in document collections - Time management in electronic commerce applications - Time granularities in databases - Techniques for extracting temporal references from documents (time indexing) - Time-based linguistic data summaries - Time management in workflow systems - Temporal information filtering and retrieval ---------- SUBMISSION ---------- Special session submissions must follow BIS-2003 submission process policies. Generally, there are two categories of submissions: research papers and work-in-progress papers. A.Research papers Paper size is limited to 5,000 words. Papers should describe original ideas or solutions. Both research and practical papers should be closely related to time aspects in business information systems. B.Work in progress papers Paper size is limited to 2,500 words. Papers may describe original working projects in the area with the particular focus on the contribution expected. Detailed instructions regarding the submission process may be found on the conference Web page at http://www.bis2003.info.
