=========================================================================== CALL FOR PAPERS =========================================================================== (cancelled) 1st International STI Germany PhD-Network Workshop in conjunction with 12th International Conference on Business Information Systems (BIS 2009) Poznan, Poland April 29, 2009 /bis2009/wscfp.php?ws=phd2009 =========================================================================== Deadline for submissions: February 20, 2009 =========================================================================== There have been a growing number of PhD researchers in institutions carrying out major research interest in Semantic Web technologies. These PhD researchers could benefit from instruments that aim at bringing them together for the purpose of exchanging and sharing experiences and knowledge. For this reason we have established the STI Germany PhD Network (as an extension of our PhD Network Berlin-Brandenburg). The basic concept of the STI PhD Network is to create a solid and flexible space in which PhD students whose research interests cover the Semantic Web can exchange their ideas, identify and exploit synergies. The network focuses on the over-regional cooperation of PhD students in different stages of their thesis. Doctoral student at the beginning of their research can possibly substantiate a suitable research topic and students finalising their PhD the network provides important feedback about the comprehensibility and completeness of the achieved results. The STI Germany PhD Network is organising the 1st International STI Germany PhD-Network Workshop that focuses on doctoral students with the Semantic Web as their core research area, in all stages of their dissertation. The relation to the Semantic Web could be either application or theory oriented (Semantic Web as the methodology for a solution to a given problem or the extension of Semantic Web technologies). The intention of the workshop is to give doctoral researchers the possibility to present their research results for debate within a group that shares a common interest. The presentation of their own results is an important requisite for a successful dissertation and a helpful exercise for the doctoral defence. It is all the more important that the doctoral student can share their knowledge as early and as often as possible and obtain other's opinions. TOPICS OF INTEREST * Ontology engineering: methodologies for ontology engineering; ontology versioning, maintenance, reuse * Ontology alignment: algorithms, methods and tools for mapping, merging, matching, alignment * Semantic search: personalization in search-context * Costs issues within Semantic Web: cost models for ontology engineering * Semantic middleware * Semantic multimedia * Semantic Web services * Semantic wikis * Rule languages for Semantic Web * Business applications of semantics * Linked data * Privacy, trust and security aspects within Sematnic Web * Top-down methods of semantic content development * Other topics related to development and usage of ontologies and other semantic representations SUBMISSION Papers must be submitted in PDF format according to Springer LNBIP template available from http://www.springer.com/east/home/computer/lncs?SGWID=5-164-7-487211-0. We invite submissions of papers no longer than 10 LNBIP pages (including figures, references and appendices). Papers must give a clear description of the PhD research and should have the following structure: - description of the PhD-research problem - motivation for you research - description of the research methodology you have applied - state of the art of your research domain (citing key papers) - presentation of your approach & preliminary results - comparison of your approach/results to the existing approaches: novelty & advantages of your approach - plan for the future work. Please provide how long you have been working on your PhD. Submission system is available at http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=stiphd2009.
