Sören Auer: Linked Data an easy entry into service-oriented architectures?

Over the past 4 years, the semantic web activity has gained momentum with the widespread publishing of structured data as RDF. The Linked Data paradigm has therefore evolved from a practical research idea into a very promising candidate for addressing one of the biggest challenges in the area of the Semantic Web vision: the exploitation of the Web as a platform for data and information integration. The question which will be discussed in this talk is whether Linked Data can complement and facilitate Service-Oriented-Architectures in the Enterprise. We will introduce the main concepts and ideas behind Linked Data and look into how these can be applied in the enterprise context.

Jörg Becker: Process Management – The Next Steps

Effective process management is an essential success factor for organizations. Organizations in all domains require lean and efficient processes to remain competitive. However, the implementation of an appropriate process management is a challenging and error-prone endeavor. As a major reason for this, the lack of effective and comprehensible methods has been identified. Moreover, due to rising market dynamics detailed knowledge of the internal business processes is crucial to develop competitive advantage. Market trends have to be identified and needs for action have to be established early to be prepared for market changes and to react accordingly. Therefore, it is necessary that the company’s processes are transparent and starting points can be identified quickly. Concentrating on this aim, an approach is needed to support the capturing of processes in a meaningful and syntactically correct way to be able to improve them in a goal-oriented fashion.
